Everything You Need to Know

We have compiled answers to the most common questions we receive from prospective clients. If you do not find what you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

A Financial Adviser approved by Bank Negara Malaysia is licensed to provide holistic, unbiased financial advice across the full spectrum of financial planning — protection, investments, retirement, estate planning, and tax-efficient strategies. Unlike an insurance agent who is contractually tied to a single insurance company and can only recommend that company's products, a Financial Adviser operates independently and compares solutions from across the entire market. This structural independence means our recommendations are based solely on your needs, not on institutional sales targets or commission differentials. At Adwise Capital, we do not sell products — we provide advice, and any product recommendations that arise from that advice are selected through an open-market comparison process with full cost disclosure.

Adwise Capital operates on a transparent fee structure that we discuss and agree upon with every client before any engagement begins. Our compensation may come from client advisory fees, which are agreed in advance and can be structured as a flat fee, an hourly rate, or a percentage of assets under advisement depending on the scope and complexity of the engagement. For certain product implementations, we may receive commissions or trailing fees from product providers, but these are always fully disclosed to the client and offset against any advisory fees to avoid double-charging. The key principle is that you will know exactly what you are paying and what you are receiving, before any commitment is made. We never accept volume bonuses, override commissions, or preferential arrangements that could compromise our objectivity.

All advisers at Adwise Capital are licensed Financial Advisers approved by Bank Negara Malaysia under the Financial Services Act 2013. Beyond this regulatory baseline, our team members hold advanced professional designations including the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification from the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia, the Registered Financial Planner (RFP) designation, and in some cases the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter. Each adviser completes a minimum of 40 continuing professional development hours annually, covering areas such as retirement planning, estate management, tax law updates, behavioural finance, and regulatory compliance. Our founder, Ahmad Firdaus, holds a Bachelor's degree in Finance from Universiti Malaya and has over 18 years of industry experience spanning banking, insurance, and independent financial advisory.

The initial financial planning process typically spans four to six weeks from the first consultation to the delivery of your written financial plan. This timeline allows us to conduct a thorough fact-finding session, analyse your complete financial situation, research appropriate solutions across the market, and prepare a comprehensive, documented plan with clear recommendations and projected outcomes. The discovery session itself takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes, followed by one or two follow-up meetings to clarify details and gather supporting documentation. Once the plan is presented, you receive a full review period with no pressure to make immediate decisions. Subsequent implementation, if you choose to proceed, is paced according to your comfort level and priorities.

Absolutely. A financial plan is not a static document — it is a living framework that should evolve as your life circumstances, goals, and market conditions change. We build flexibility into every plan from the outset, with built-in review points and scenario options that can be activated as needed. Life events such as marriage, the birth of a child, a career change, an inheritance, a property purchase, or a shift in retirement timeline are all triggers for a plan review. Our standard engagement includes quarterly check-in calls and a comprehensive annual review meeting where we assess progress, update assumptions, and recommend adjustments. We find that clients who maintain regular review cadences achieve significantly better outcomes than those who set and forget.

We do not begin with products — we begin with your needs, goals, and circumstances, and only then identify suitable solutions from the full range of options available in the Malaysian market. The products we may recommend span conventional and Shariah-compliant life insurance, medical and health insurance, unit trusts, private retirement schemes, deferred annuity plans, capital-protected structured products, Malaysian government and corporate bonds, exchange-traded funds, and real estate investment trusts. We are not tied to any single provider and regularly compare offerings from multiple institutions to identify the most appropriate solution for each client. Importantly, we only recommend products that we understand thoroughly, that we would use ourselves, and whose terms and costs we can explain to you in plain language.

Yes, we offer comprehensive Shariah-compliant financial planning for Muslim clients who require their financial arrangements to be in accordance with syariah principles. Our Shariah advisory framework covers takaful (Islamic insurance) for protection needs, Shariah-compliant unit trusts and ETFs for investments, EPF investment schemes with syariah-approved instruments, and estate planning through faraid calculations and hibah (inter vivos gift) arrangements. We work with a network of qualified syariah advisors and takaful operators to ensure that every recommendation adheres to syariah requirements while meeting your financial objectives. Our Shariah-compliant offerings are not an afterthought — they are fully integrated into our core advisory methodology, and non-Muslim clients may also select Shariah-compliant options if they prefer ethical or values-based investment approaches.

No. At Adwise Capital, we believe that professional financial advice should be accessible to all Malaysians, regardless of their current wealth level. We work with clients at every stage of their financial journey — from fresh graduates earning RM 3,000 per month to established business owners and retirees managing multi-million-ringgit portfolios. The scope and complexity of our engagement is always proportionate to your circumstances and goals. Our initial discovery session is complimentary, and subsequent advisory fees are structured in relation to the value we deliver, not the size of your assets. We have found that clients who start working with us early in their careers benefit enormously from the long-term compounding effect of sound financial decisions made over decades, making early engagement particularly valuable.

Getting started is simple. You can reach us by phone at +6019-638 9095, email us at info@adwise-aw.it.com, or complete the contact form on our website. A member of our team will respond within one business day to schedule your complimentary discovery session. This initial conversation, which can be conducted in person at our office in Sunway Geo Avenue, Bandar Sunway, or via video call for your convenience, is entirely without obligation. During this session, we will learn about your financial situation and goals, explain our methodology in detail, and answer any questions you may have. If both parties agree that there is a fit, we will outline the scope of work, fees, and timeline for your engagement before proceeding with any formal planning. There is never any pressure to commit — we want you to be completely confident in your decision to work with us.

Absolutely. As a Bank Negara Malaysia approved Financial Adviser, we are legally required to comply with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA) and the financial services regulations governing client confidentiality. Your personal and financial information is stored on encrypted systems with multi-factor access controls, and is never shared with third parties without your explicit written consent. We maintain professional indemnity insurance and have established internal data protection protocols that exceed regulatory minimums. All client documents are stored in locked facilities with restricted access, and digital communications are encrypted. Our compliance framework undergoes regular internal and external audits to ensure ongoing adherence to data protection standards. You may request a copy of our privacy policy at any time, which details exactly how your data is collected, stored, used, and protected.

We have experience working with clients who relocate internationally and have developed strategies to ensure continuity of financial advice across borders. If you move overseas, we can continue to serve you through virtual consultations, adapting your financial plan to account for the tax and regulatory implications of your new country of residence. In some cases, we may recommend restructuring certain investments or insurance policies to comply with local regulations and optimise your cross-border tax position. For clients who are relocating permanently and need ongoing local advice, we maintain a referral network of trusted financial professionals in several countries, including Singapore, Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand, and can facilitate a smooth transition to a qualified adviser in your new location. Your Malaysian-based assets and investments will continue to be managed in accordance with your plan unless you decide otherwise.

At Adwise Capital, we structure our client engagement around a regular review cadence designed to keep your plan current and actionable. We schedule brief quarterly check-in calls lasting 15 to 30 minutes to review progress, discuss any immediate concerns, and monitor developments in your personal or professional life that may warrant plan adjustments. Once a year, we conduct a comprehensive annual review meeting of approximately 60 to 90 minutes where we perform a full reassessment of your financial position, update all assumptions and projections, review investment performance against benchmarks, and formally document any recommended changes. Beyond this scheduled cadence, we encourage clients to contact their adviser whenever they experience a significant life event — a job change, marriage, childbirth, inheritance, property transaction, or health event — so that we can proactively adjust the plan rather than waiting for the next scheduled review. This responsiveness is a core part of our service commitment.
